Among many institutions working for promotion of folklore research Kolaghat Lokasamskriti Gabeshana Kndra O Sanghahasala [Kolaghat Folklore Research Institute and Museum] occupies its distinct position, situated in kola village, three km away from the north of Kolaghat Rail Station [Howrah Kharagpur train rout] , the institute has been working since 1 st May 2000. Their activities are spread over folklore and allied objects like literature, archaeology, history, performing arts etc.
The institute collects materials through fieldworks from with the help of a trained team and preserves them. The institute publishes a journal on history and folklore named Lokayata, till December 2004 twelve issues has been published. Articles on exclusively field work based research are published. Each and every issue has thrown light of exclusive features of local history and folklore.
The institute also runs a museum where artifacts and manuscripts are displayed, more then one thousand collections are there among which Bhanr Jatra, Sanger Gan, Beni Putul Nach, Ram Jatra, Champabati are some names to be mentioned.
The institute extends possible assistance to researchers and other persons who are interested in knowing the folklore heritages of the district. The major items that is famous in this area are : 1) Performing Art 2) Puppetry 3) Composite Art Forms - are worth to mention.
